    Responsibilities

    Position Summary:

    The Life Enrichment Assistant contributes to the wellbeing of Tabitha’s elders/clients/residents (hereinafter “elders/clients”) by heading up programs of Life Enrichment which provide stimulation or solace; promote each elder/client’s self-respect, self-expression, personal responsibility and choice. The Life Enrichment Assistant encourages elders/clients to exercise their abilities through physical, intellectual, social, spiritual and emotional challenges. This position provides assistance and positive feedback to the CNAs. Employee will complete other assignments as directed by their supervisor. Each of these areas is vitally important to Tabitha’s ability to meet the goal of providing optimum care to Tabitha’s elders/clients. This employee strives to uphold Tabitha’s LIVE Culture, Crew Code of Conduct and actively embraces Tabitha’s Core Values.   As a result, the employee supports Tabitha goals related to dignity, respect, independence, competence, autonomy, personal comfort, safety and security of elders/clients.   In addition, the employee contributes to the success of Tabitha through ongoing collaboration with, coworkers, management, volunteers and others in the organization.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    1. Initiates one-to-one contact with elders/clients to develop relationships and assess mental, physical and emotional status.
    2. Plans, develops, organizes and implements group and individual Life Enrichment for elders/clients to exercise their abilities through physical, intellectual, social, spiritual, and emotional challenges.
    3. Plans, develops, organizes and implements individualized Life Enrichment activities which meet needs identified and that are based on past interests, current abilities, and any assessed new interests of the elder/client.
    4. Assists elders/clients to and from Life Enrichment as needed.
    5. Develops new tools to better meet the elders/clients and staff needs to aide in the success of Life Enrichment.
    6. Communicates effectively with elders/clients, families, staff and support services to achieve elder/client goals and meet service expectations.
    7. Develops Life Enrichment which utilizes community resources.
    8. Assures Life Enrichment services are administered in accordance with elder/client wishes.
    9. Assists with supervising community volunteers assigned to the Life Enrichment department.
    10. Creates the monthly Life Enrichment calendars and ensures that they are displayed and provided to all elders/clients.
    11. Assures preliminary and comprehensive assessments are developed, updated, and maintained according to program standards and state and federal regulations for each client.
    12. If applicable, completes documentation including care plans, progress notes, forms and reports as required by federal/state regulation and department policy.
    13. While promoting optimum elder/client independence, provides and/or assists with providing Life Enrichment of daily living
    14. Immediately communicates any change in physical, mental or psychosocial status of elder/client to the appropriate party to assure quality and continuity of care and adjustments to plan or care as needed.
    15. Uses strength, dexterity and agility to safely assist elders/clients into and out of vehicles and buildings. Secures elders/clients wheelchairs/walkers and other possessions to stabilize them during trips.
    16. Uses all senses and abilities to safely drive Tabitha vehicles while transporting elders/clients. Maintains constant awareness of surroundings and conditions, and demonstrates exemplary driving skills.  
    17. Actively participates in training of new staff upon request of supervisor
    18. Maintains a good record of attendance and punctuality as defined by Tabitha’s policy pertaining to attendance and punctuality. Records all time worked accurately and consistently using the timekeeping method provided by Tabitha
    19. Completes required training (including learning management system education) and in-services promptly. Demonstrates understanding of the course content and implements training in day to day activities
    20. Consistently uses strength, agility and good body mechanics when performing essential functions. Develops, implements and follows appropriate safety and infection control policies and procedures of Tabitha and/or community and regulatory agencies
    21. Reports all broken and malfunctioning equipment immediately. Follows disaster plans and uses strength and agility during participation in preparedness drills and actual emergencies. Maintains a neat and orderly work environment.
    22. Prioritizes work load to ensure that all essential functions are addressed effectively, making appropriate adjustments throughout each shift and each work week to meet changing and/or competing priorities when necessary. Utilizes strength and stamina to carry out all essential functions safely and effectively.
    23. Fosters and maintains an effective working relationship with coworkers, employees, managers, vendors and others who contribute to the success of Tabitha’s Life Enrichment team.  
    24. Complies with Tabitha policies and procedures as published by Tabitha and which may be modified at Tabitha’s discretion. Contributes to quality assurance and performance improvement activities by identifying instances of non-compliance and taking appropriate action, including reporting violations of Tabitha policy or regulations as appropriate.
    25. Complies with HIPAA regulations regarding privacy by insuring that Protected Health Information (PHI) is safeguarded at all times. In addition, maintains a high level of confidentiality regarding any matter pertaining to any Tabitha elders/clients, as well as Tabitha employees and employee records. Ensures that all direct reports comply with privacy guidelines.
    26. Acts with integrity and in the best interest of Tabitha.   Business relationships are conducted in the best interest of Tabitha, free of gifts, cash inducements, gratuities, favors, or other perceived improper inducements
    27. Willingly takes on additional duties and/or assignments, assisting with projects and responding to requests as assigned or as necessary
    28. Maintains courteous relationship with supervisors, co-workers, elders/clients, family members, loved ones, members of other departments and volunteers, providing support and assistance to co-workers to ensure quality elders/clients care. Volunteers to assist others and seeks opportunities to serve elders/clients/loved ones/coworkers/Tabitha.
    29. Responds appropriately to emergencies. Implements appropriate safety and disaster measures for the protection of residents, visitors and staff.

    Qualifications

    COMMUNICATION: Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the English language including terminology related to the job. Sufficient fluency to be able to understand and follow written and verbal instructions; provide instruction to others; read and understand a plan of care or service plan, policies, procedures or other similar documentation; interact successfully with elders/clients/caregivers; hold a conversation, conduct or participate in meetings; compose professional e-mails or other written communication; prepare legible, accurate and thorough documentation as required by the job; and interact with coworkers, customers, vendors, volunteers, managers and family members. Ability to recognize and interpret non-verbal cues.   Ability to respond calmly and clearly to emergencies and emotional situations.

    WORKSITE CONDITIONS: Works indoors in a facility maintained by Tabitha that will typically be in good repair, clean, well ventilated and well lit. Work is performed in a standard office setting.   Occasionally works outdoors with exposure to allergens, dust and extremes in temperature. Works under daily and hourly deadlines requiring uninterrupted periods of intense activity.   Frequent exposure to interruptions and changes in priorities. Frequent involvement with elders/clients and employees, including encounters that may involve extremes of emotion demonstrated by elders/clients. Works beyond normal scheduled hours and on weekends and holidays when assigned. Is subject to extended hours or callback during emergency conditions or based upon needs of the organization.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to gain access to the work area and then safely perform the duties of the job while utilizing standard and specialized equipment, including but not limited to the equipment described below. Physical Life Enrichment is required including physical participation in Life Enrichment( i.e. walking, stooping, crouching, standing for long periods of time, etc.) as well as carrying equipment and assisting residents to and from Life Enrichment. May involved working with persons with special needs, i.e. illness, disabilities, upset emotions, and at times, hostility. Is subject to frequent interruptions. Vision and hearing within normal limits (with or without correction). Must have unrestricted lift/push/pull ability and pass a 50 - pound physical exam demonstrating strength and agility prior to employment and at Tabitha’s discretion.  

    EQUIPMENT USAGE:  Standard and specialized equipment including wheelchairs, walkers, laptop, PC, tablet, photocopier, scanner, fax machine, elevator, projector, telephone, and electronic devices.

    AGE REQUIREMENT:  At least age 18.

    EDUCATION:  Bachelor’s degree in Human Development, Gerontology, or related field preferred.

    EXPERIENCE:  Minimum of six months experience working with elders.

    CREDENTIALS:  Valid Nebraska Driver’s license (unless otherwise allowed by law) and a good driving record required.  Must possess auto insurance at or above Nebraska statutory requirements.
