Responsibilities

  1. Acts as a leader of the Life Enrichment team, assisting in training, mentoring and supporting new and current Life Enrichment TEAMembers.
  2. Implements and maintains the memory care program approved by Tabitha leadership.
  3. Initiates one-to-one contact with Seniors/clients to develop relationships and assess physical, cognitive and emotional status.
  4. Screens and assesses individual needs, capabilities and interests of assigned residents and those with memory care and dementia needs, to ensure proper Life Enrichment programming is implemented
  5. Organizes, plans, implements and modifies, as needed, a program of diverse activities for Seniors/clients in Tabitha Living Communities with memory care and dementia needs, in conjunction with the Director of Life Enrichment.
  6. Assists Life Enrichment leadership in developing activity calendars and creative programming, which may utilize community resources, and ensure calendars are displayed and provided to all assigned Seniors/clients.
  7. Works with staff and Seniors/clients in resolving resident issues that need to be addressed. Helps de-escalate Seniors/clients with dementia by planning and providing activities that serve as an alternative to psychotropic medications, when safely possible, and educating other caregivers on techniques to ensure continuity in care.
  8. Plans, organizes and leads community outings for Seniors/clients, as appropriate. Safely drives and/or assists Seniors/clients into and out of vehicles and buildings, ensuring to secure and stabilize any wheelchairs, walkers and other possessions during trips.
  9. Remains up to date on current literature and research relating to dementia. Attends necessary training sessions and seminars and shares knowledge with others on the team and within Tabitha Living Communities/Service Lines, as needed.

Qualifications

COMMUNICATION:  Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the English language including terminology related to the job. Ability to recognize and interpret non-verbal cues. Ability to respond calmly and clearly to emergencies and emotional situations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Ability to gain access to the work area and then safely perform the duties of the job. Vision and hearing within normal limits (with or without correction). Must have unrestricted lift/push/pull ability and pass a 50 - pound physical exam demonstrating strength and agility prior to employment and at Tabitha’s discretion.      
EDUCATION: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Development, Gerontology, or related field preferred. 
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 2 years experience working with seniors, and 1 year experience with dementia caregiving. 
CREDENTIALS: Valid Driver’s license and a good driving record required. Must possess auto insurance at or above Nebraska statutory requirements. Certified Dementia Practioner (CDP) certification must be obtained and maintained throughout employment. Must meet Tabitha’s vaccination requirements.
