Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Life Enrichment Coordinator contributes to the wellbeing of Tabitha’s Seniors/clients/residents (hereinafter “Seniors/clients”) by planning, developing, implementing and supervising recreational and therapeutic activity programs that provide stimulation or solace; promote each Senior’s/client’s self-respect, self-expression, personal responsibility, and choice.  This TEAMember is responsible for assuring the life enrichment program occurs within the context of each Senior’s/client’s comprehensive assessment and care plan and reflects each Senior’s/client’s individual needs.  Each of these areas is vitally important to Tabitha’s ability to meet the goal of providing optimum care to Tabitha’s Seniors/clients.  This TEAMember strives to uphold Tabitha’s LIVE2Care Culture and actively embraces Tabitha’s Core Values.   As a result, the TEAMember supports Tabitha goals related to dignity, respect, independence, competence, autonomy, personal comfort, safety and security of Seniors/clients.   In addition, the TEAMember contributes to the success of Tabitha through ongoing collaboration with, coworkers, management, volunteers and others in the organization.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Plans, develops, organizes and implements and evaluates programs and activities in accordance with current rules, regulations, standards, and guidelines.
  2. Carries a Senior/client case load, providing activities and participates in development and implementing plans of care for this population.
  3. Develops, implements, and maintains an ongoing performance improvement program for the Life Enrichment program.
  4. Participates and manages surveys by authorized government and accrediting agencies.
  5. Determines staffing needs of the Life Enrichment programs necessary to meet the total activity needs of the Seniors/clients.
  6. Reviews complaints and grievances made or filed by Seniors/clients.
  7. Provides Administrator with information relative to the activity needs of the Seniors/clients and the Life Enrichment program’s ability to meet those needs.
  8. Assures equipment and supply inventories of the Life Enrichment program are adequate and safe.
  9. Assures preliminary and comprehensive assessments are developed, updated, and maintained according to program standards and state and federal regulations for each Senior/client.
  10. Assures Life Enrichment services are administered in accordance with Senior/client wishes.
  11. Prepares and plans the Life Enrichment program's budget and submits to the Administrator for review, recommendations, and/or approval.
  12. Meets all budget expectations.
  13. Monitors TEAMembers to ensure all Seniors/clients are treated fairly, and with kindness, dignity, and respect.
  14. Communicates effectively with Seniors/clients, families, TEAMembers, and support services to achieve Senior/client goals and meet service expectations.
  15. Ensures Senior/client care is delivered in an environment that demonstrates honesty, integrity, compassion, and trust.
  16. Ensures health services provided by the Life Enrichment program is provided in the most appropriate setting, as dictated by the Senior’s/client's medical and social needs.
  17. Uses strength, dexterity and agility to safely assist Seniors/clients into and out of vehicles and buildings. Secures Seniors/clients wheelchairs/walkers and other possessions to stabilize them during trips
  18. Uses all senses and abilities to safely drive Tabitha vehicles while transporting Seniors/clients. Maintains constant awareness of surroundings and conditions, and demonstrates exemplary driving skills.  
  19. Actively participates in training of new TEAMembers upon request of supervisor.
  20. Maintains a good record of attendance and punctuality as defined by Tabitha’s policy pertaining to attendance and punctuality. Records all time worked accurately and consistently using the timekeeping method provided by Tabitha.
  21. Completes required training (including learning management system education) and in-services promptly. Demonstrates understanding of the course content and implements training in daily activities.
  22. Consistently uses strength, agility and good body mechanics when performing essential functions. Develops, implements and follows appropriate safety and infection control policies and procedures of Tabitha and/or community and regulatory agencies.
  23. Ensures reports of all broken and malfunctioning equipment are made in a timely manner.
  24. Follows disaster plans and uses strength and agility during participation in preparedness drills and actual emergencies. Maintains a safe work environment.
  25. Prioritizes work load to ensure that all essential functions are addressed effectively, making appropriate adjustments throughout each shift and each work week to meet changing and/or competing priorities when necessary. Utilizes strength and stamina to carry out all essential functions safely and effectively.
  26. Fosters and maintains an effective working relationship with TEAMembers, managers, vendors and others who contribute to the success of Tabitha in Crete’s Life Enrichment team.
  27. Complies with Tabitha policies and procedures as published by Tabitha and which may be modified at Tabitha’s discretion. Contributes to quality assurance and performance improvement activities by identifying instances of non-compliance and taking appropriate action, including reporting violations of Tabitha policy or regulations as appropriate. 
  28. Complies with HIPAA regulations regarding privacy by insuring that Protected Health Information (PHI) is safeguarded at all times. In addition, maintains a high level of confidentiality regarding any matter pertaining to any Tabitha Seniors/clients.
  29. Acts with integrity and in the best interest of Tabitha. Business relationships are conducted in the best interest of Tabitha, free of gifts, cash inducements, gratuities, favors, or other perceived improper inducements.
  30. Willingly takes on additional duties and/or assignments, assisting with projects and responding to requests as assigned or as necessary.
  31. Maintains courteous relationship with supervisors, TEAMembers, Seniors/clients, family members, loved ones, members of other departments and volunteers, providing support and assistance to co-workers to ensure quality Senior/client care. Volunteers to assist others and seeks opportunities to serve Seniors/clients/loved ones/coworkers/Tabitha.
  32. Responds appropriately to emergencies. Implements appropriate safety and disaster measures for the protection of residents, visitors and staff.

Qualifications

COMMUNICATION:  Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the English language including terminology related to the job.  Sufficient fluency to be able to understand and follow written and verbal instructions; provide instruction to others; read and understand a plan of care or service plan, policies, procedures or other similar documentation; interact successfully with Seniors/clients/caregivers; hold a conversation, conduct or participate in meetings; compose professional e-mails or other written communication; prepare legible, accurate and thorough documentation as required by the job; and interact with coworkers, customers, vendors, volunteers, managers and family members.  Ability to recognize and interpret non-verbal cues.   Ability to respond calmly and clearly to emergencies and emotional situations.


WORKSITE CONDITIONS: Works indoors in a facility maintained by Tabitha that will typically be in good repair, clean, well ventilated and well lit.  Work is performed in a standard office setting.    Occasionally works outdoors with exposure to allergens, dust and extremes in temperature.  Works under daily and hourly deadlines requiring uninterrupted periods of intense activity.   Frequent exposure to interruptions and changes in priorities.  Frequent involvement with Seniors/clients and TEAMembers, including encounters that may involve extremes of emotion demonstrated by Seniors/clients.  Works beyond normal scheduled hours and on weekends and holidays when assigned.  Is subject to extended hours or callback during emergency conditions or based upon needs of the organization.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Ability to gain access to the work area and then safely perform the duties of the job while utilizing standard and specialized equipment, including but not limited to the equipment described below.  Physical Life Enrichment is required including physical participation in Life Enrichment( i.e. walking, stooping, crouching, standing for long periods of time, etc.) as well as carrying equipment and assisting residents to and from Life Enrichment.  May involved working with persons with special needs, i.e. illness, disabilities, upset emotions, and at times, hostility.  Is subject to frequent interruptions.  Vision and hearing within normal limits (with or without correction).  Must have unrestricted lift/push/pull ability and pass a 50 - pound physical exam demonstrating strength and agility prior to employment and at Tabitha’s discretion.      


EQUIPMENT USAGE: Standard and specialized equipment including wheelchairs, walkers, laptop, PC, tablet, photocopier, scanner, fax machine, elevator, projector, telephone, and electronic devices. 


AGE REQUIREMENT:   At least age 18.


EDUCATION:  Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in therapeutic recreation or field, preferred. 


EXPERIENCE:  One year of full-time experience in a resident activities program in a health care setting, required.  One year experience directing a resident activities program in a geriatric health care setting preferred.


CREDENTIALS:  Qualified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist or Therapeutic Recreation Assistant preferred.  Valid Nebraska Driver’s license (unless otherwise allowed by law) and a good driving record required.  Must possess auto insurance at or above Nebraska statutory requirements. Must meet Tabitha's vaccination requirements
